Kinect Response Time and Lag to Vary From Game to Game

A recent interview with Andrew Oliver over at Blitz Games explored the challenges of developing a game for the Kinect. One key issue addressed is the issue of lag between player movements and how quickly the game responds to those movements. Oliver attributed any lag to development of the game being played, which he went on to say “We will tighten and tighten it. There doesn’t need to be a lag. We can get it down to maybe two frames behind, which is pretty insignificant.”

“But this is all software-based, so where some people might see some little cracks, they’re easily fixable by software,” said Oliver. It’s great to hear that even if a game has poor response time, the developer will have the option to the optimize the game through updates. While Oliver sounds excited for the release of their first Kinect title The Biggest Loser: Ultimate Workout, he sounds even more optimistic about future releases when he went on to say “The first few games will look like nothing compared to second and third generation.”
